We are bringing to you some selected cut stones from the Ruby Clement collection. Ruby Clement Collection is a vast collection of authentic Sri Lankan gems, some of which date back to the mid-19th century.
Ruby Clement Jayawardene
Ruby Clement Jayawardene is the fourth-generation owner and proprietor of Ruby Jewellers, an age-old gem and jewellery business in Colombo. Ruby Clement comes from a family of mine owners, gem collectors and Jewellers. Ruby’s father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all respected gem merchants in Rathnapura, Balangoda and Colombo. Rathnapura, meaning the “city of gems” and Balangoda are home to a vast majority of gem mines in Sri Lanka. Having his jewellery business established in Colombo, Ruby Clement sources most his gems from Rathnapura and Balangoda regions.
An Eye that is as Accurate as a High-Resolution Camera
Ruby Clement trusts his bare eyes when selecting gems. He has a trained eye to see everything about a gem in an instant. This extraordinary ability must have been reinforced by the DNA of his father, grandfather and great-grandfather evolved over the span of more than a century in business.
Sourcing from Mines, Grinders and Cutters
Ruby Clement knows the value of sourcing the gems upstream. Although he sources some stones to the lower end of the price spectrum from the well-known Bazar in Rathnapura, he always tries to pick more valuable gems from Mines, Grinders and Cutters. This way, he knows where a gem was mined, who mined it, where the gem was cut and many other information about the stone. Some of the most valuable pieces in his collection, and some of the items he inherited from his father that are still kept in his collection are stones directly sourced from mines.
Focus on Sri Lankan Gems
Ruby Clement is passionate about the Sri Lankan gem industry. He thoroughly believes in delivering true value to customers, be it gemstone purchasing customers or jewelry purchasers. That is why he records the story of most of the valuable pieces in his collection to keep the history safe and secure. Sri Lanka is famous for her sapphires, rubies and many other types of gems. A beautiful 423-carat Logan Sapphire, cut from a crystal mined in Sri Lanka is one of the world’s largest faceted blue sapphires on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Sapphires from Ceylon (Old name of Sri Lanka) are usually light to medium blue in colour. Princess Diana’s engagement ring showed off a 12-carat oval sapphire from Sri Lanka. That sapphire’s colour was “royal blue colour of Ceylon”.
Jewellery Designer, Craftsman
Ruby Clement has a team of experienced Jewellery designers and Craftsmen who design contemporary jewellery as well as ethnic jewellery. Some of his customers bring in orders for ethnic jewellery to be made on certain astrological directives and advise. His designers and craftsmen work closely with customers to satisfy customer requirements. Some of his customers too are generational customers whose families trust Ruby Clement for everything that has to do with jewellery.

We selected affordable sapphires from the Ruby Clement Collection to cover a wide range in the colour spectrum that can be delivered to our valued customers immediately at the opening sale. We will also offer a selection of high-end sapphires from the collection for our customers to place online orders.
These stones have a unique story of their own in Sri Lanka, but Ruby Clement regrets the fact that like many gems in the world market, the stories cannot be proven due to the lack of traceability in the gem industry so far. RURI uses blockchain technology to record and prove the identity and story of those millions of years old natural creations.
